Idris and Taji at the Special Screening of NO GOOD DEED

Every woman that I know is super excited to see Idris Elba in the new movie NO GOOD DEED, even though he is going to be playing a crazy man! He is just so FINE that we want to support him in everything that he does!
Both Idris and Taraji looked fab and had fun at the NO GOOD DEED special screening in LA on Tuesday. They hosted the screening, and answered questions from VIBE correspondent Milan. The movie hits theaters on September 12.

Giving Me Life 6: Quest Protein Chips

I am a HORRIBLE snacker. I snack on all the wrong, greasy, salty, over-sweetened stuff that may taste delicious, but leaves me feeling gross with no energy. So I was super excited to receive these Quest Protein Chips because one, I love chips and two, I was eager to taste a healthier version of my favorite munchy.
What I like about the Quest Protein Chips is the crunch. There is no oily aftertaste like with regular potato chips, but the crunch is so satisfying. The chips are also well-seasoned, not what you would expect from an alternative chip. My favorite was the BBQ flavored. This flavor, to me, could compete the best with regular potato chips.
I am a health food naysayer, but I am very happy that I tried these chips. You would not have been able to sell me on this before, but there is such a thing as a snack being able to be good and more healthy at the same time. I would TOTALLY eat these again.

How To: Keke Palmer's Emmy's Look

Keke Palmer looked absolutely flawless on the Emmy's red carpet. Here are instructions on how to create her classic look with Motion's hair products from her stylist, Cynthia Alvarez.

CLEANSE Start with clean, dry hair - try the Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo

CONDITION Use Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner, comb through to detangle and ensure even distribution

TREAT Apply Motions Straight Finish Sealer to the hair to prep before blow drying straight. Next, flat iron the hair smooth making sure to leave volume across the crown, then pull hair back into a simple bun and secure with hair pins. Tip: for added volume, fluff hair with fingers at the root

FINISH Smooth sides and edges of hair at the nape of the neck using Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade and set with the Motions Light Hold Working Spritz

STYLE Finish with the Motions Oil Sheen & Conditioning Spray to keep the look natural and in place

We know that the red carpet can be a hit or miss for celebs, but this especially seems to be the case for plus-size actresses. More often than not, stylists and designers seem to be setting them up for the Okie Doke, pushing them down the carpet in VERY ill-fitting pieces than leaves everyone, from fashion critiques to viewers at home, scratching their heads, wondering what possess them to make such a HUGE fashion mistake!
This was not the case for the ladies above. No, these curvy divas worked the carpet like it was going out of style! Let's hope that this great year for plus-size women on the carpet sets the tone for years to come!

The Terrible 29s 5: Can You Pay My Bills?

Once upon a time, I was a college student, working towards my degree so that I could be an independent woman because BEYONCE told me I should be. How I looked down on those girls who treated college like one big date night. Fast forward 8 years and I fall asleep with my power bill stuck to my face. Who knew tears could be an adhesive?  I AM SO BROKE? WHY AM I SO BROKE?!

Today, most of those date girls are married with kids, enjoying the spoils of being a stay at home mom. Meanwhile, I just bought a roll of toilet paper with pennies from the bottom of my purse. How could I have been so stupid, questioning the formula that had worked throughout the ages, just so I could say I was independent? My mouth waters thinking of how I could have an all-expense paid life- a life free of coupons and leftovers. I have tried taking care of myself and I am woman enough to admit that I have failed. I am now ready for a man that has been socialized to take care of a woman to come in and clean up this mess! From my mouth to God’s ears.

In the meanwhile, how much do you think I can get for pawning my degree?

Review: John Masters Organics Spearmint & Meadowsweet Scalp Stimulating Shampoo and Green Tea Calendula Leave-In Conditioning Midst

If you have not heard of John Masters, where have you been? They make amazing hair products, and I was lucky enough to get to sample their Spearmint & Meadowsweet Scalp Stimulating Shampoo and the Green Tea & Calendula  Leave-In Conditioning Midst.

The shampoo is like a spa day for your scalp! It is so refreshing and tingles lightly.  I felt like I was getting a scalp massage as I washed my hair.

After I shampooed, I sprayed on the midst and went on to twist my hair. Like the shampoo, I love the smell, and the midst made my hair easy to manage and helped to detangle my hair as I twisted.

John Masters has an array of products that help to resolve numerous hair issues. Want to learn more? Click here.

I Heart Lauren Conrad: Paper Crown x LC Lauren Conrad

Those closest to me know what a deep, huge fan I am of Lauren Conrad. I loved her on The Hills. She was so ambitious and such a good friend to everybody. I am sure that we live totally different lives but I have to say, I connected to her. She was nice and loyal and wore really cute clothes. I even bought the books she wrote after she left the show. I am a total Lauren Conrad supporter.
These are my favorite looks from Lauren's fall Paper Crown Collection. OMG, the pieces are adorable! I am super sad because they do not come in plus sizes and I want the Blaire Coat, featured in the first look. From my mouth to Lauren's ears on expanding the sizes;)

Right now, LC Lauren Conrad accessories are marketed down on Kohls.com. I am in love because I love studs as you know, and there is an array of studs in this collection, along with really cute statement necklaces and shoes.
Aw, LC. It feels like just yesterday you were an intern at People's Revolution. Now you have your own collections and books and really amazing eye liner application skills. May your ambition rub off on me, lol. Find more out about the collections at the links below:

Friday Night Fun: Sarah McNamara Miracle Mud

I have spent the past few weeks at my Aunt's house mootching off of her internet. And as a thank you, I decided that we would have a beauty night and give each other facials with the Sarah McNamara Miracle Skin Transformer Miracle Mud. The mud from the mask comes from European lakes and unclogs pores, gets rid of dead skin cells, and brightens the complexion so naturally, we couldn't wait to use it.

We kept the masks on for 15 minutes before rinsing. You can feel your pores opening while you are waiting to rinse but don't freak out. That's just the mask getting rid of all the yucky stuff:)

Who are these sexy ladies? Me and Aunty Lara after our Friday facials of course! Oh, and don't forget to apply the Miracle Balm afterwards as we did.

It's a good hydrater for the whole body but Aunty and I did a dab on our faces after the mask and it felt AMAZING! It included Manuka Honey and Japanese Licorice Root.
For more info visit MiracleSkinTransformer.com.

Me and Motions

I had not used Motions Hair Products since I used to get relaxers, so we will say it's been over 13 years. But I was very excited to try their For Natural Textures collection.

I washed my hair with the Moisturizing Cleanser and the Smoothing Conditioner then twisted my hair with the Hydrate My Curls Hair Pudding.

I love the smell of these products and the conditioner is thick. I detangled my hair with the conditioner in it while wet with my fingers then rinsed. After I let my hair air dry I applied the pudding and twisted my  hair into two strand twists. Stay tuned for the twist out post!

The Terrible 29s 4: Age Realization

Question: Why am I 29 wishing I was young again? I mean, I am still young right, technically? True, a female 29 is a male 66, I get it. But my God! My back cracks when I inhale! I get winded getting up in the middle of the night to pee!

I have a friend that teaches middle school full-time then is a part-time fitness instructor at a gym. On Instagram, you can find pictures of her instructing a class on how to run in place and do back bends. She is only two years younger than me. Where is she getting this energy from?! Running in place? Would you think less of me if I told you that I get from point A to point B in my apartment by rolling on my stomach?

Don’t even say it. I can hear you thinking that I should improve my diet and exercise. And I see all of you on social networking with your firm buns and tight Yoga pants, blending smoothies and using words like “glutes” and “’toids.” I work from home and don’t have time for this! Pardon me if I am 29 with little to no energy, but crying over your check book and dodging calls from creditors takes a lot out of you. How many calories do your burn running from Sally Mae?

I haven’t been the healthiest person up until now, I will admit it. But I worry because they say you are as old as you feel and I feel like Cicely Tyson looks. I used to be so fun! Okay, I have always been a little square, but I used to dance and laugh, what happened? More dues I had to pay the age police I guess. Sigh.

Review: Honey Pot 100% Natural Daily Feminine Wash

TMI story: I am not a fan of feminine wash. As a senior in high school, I tried a very popular wash to feel like a grown up and it was a DISASTER! That was 11 years ago, and I hadn't tried a feminine wash again until I came across Honey Pot 100% Natural Daily Feminine Wash.

First off, the wash I tried was lavender scented, which I love, and it is made with organic and vegan ingredients, which is awesome! Because no woman wants to introduce unhealthy ingredients to their...honey pot, lol.

The wash is also very light and rinses well without leaving behind residue. And, because it is made with great components, it is safe for pregnant women and young users.

Although I went into trying Honey Pot traumatized from my horrible high school experience, I can see myself continuing to use Honey Pot. It didn't irritate me, smells great, and I felt very clean after using it ( TMI I know!)

Much Needed Job and Goal Inspiration

If you are anything like me, you have hoping and wishing and praying for something or someone to breathe life into your career. The exhaustion of not only looking for work but looking for something that won't make you miserable to go to everyday is overwhelming! So I thought that I would share some tips with you from James Rosseau, a Fortune 100 Exec and Christian hip-hop artist/producer, that inspired me.

1. Embrace your passion. Don’t discount your dreams. Return to that childlike fascination you once had and find a way to spend your work and life passionately.

2. Perform to progress versus perfection. Don’t become paralyzed by perfection or the pursuit of it. Instead, perform to progress toward your goals and dreams, celebrating each small step along the way.

3. Promote with purpose. Let people know who you are in a way that is personal and purposeful -- not a slick self-promoter. People recognize and reward those who stand confidently in their strengths authentically and purposefully.

4. Parlay your platform. Your ‘platform’ is the station in life you’ve achieved thus far. It is the sum total of all your efforts in honing your talents and skills. It may not be where you want to be yet, but it’s yours.

5. Put it into action. Keep your eyes and ear open to see when opportunity knocks. Be alert to it and be aware. Take action on the four steps that lead up to this as earnestly and as often as possible.

6. Practice philanthropy. Give. You can never go wrong giving, even when no one hears about it. So many of us have benefited from the gifts of others, and you’ll never know what your small, or even not-so-small, gift might mean to someone in need, be it a coworker, a friend, or even a boss.

The Terrible 29s 3: Desperado Nacho

I went to a networking event recently for professionals and I can’t lie, I went primarily because it was at a Mexican restaurant and I knew that there would be nachos. And there were nachos. Amazing hot chips drenched in white queso. And as I stuffed my face alone in the corner I found myself confused. Instead of seeing networking I saw a lot of folks scoping the scene, seeing what others were working with. And thus is life when you are 29 and over. Always look and smell your best because a trip to the gas station could serve as an impromptu date-a-thon.

At this point, I am scared to RSVP to events. A child’s birthday party could become a hookup hotspot. Folks feel sorry for your if you are almost 30 and single. And as they should: it sucks! The only people who like it are those that just got out of a long, long relationship and want to experience living alone but I assure you, they don’t like it for long.

When you are single, you are at the bottom of everyone’s to-do list after family, work, aerobics and grocery shopping. After your coupled friends take the dog to get a manicure they then say, hey, let me call Sally Single and see what she is up to. Don’t think the call is genuine. They just want to make sure you are not dead.

This is not a fun block to be in, so naturally you want to go out and meet people while at the same time wanting to hide under the bed. Word of advice: don’t go to anyone’s church service if they invite you. It is going to be an ambush. And you will then get to listen to a man tell you why he feels he has to get married tomorrow before God starts hating him. Emmm…romance.

Review: Limoneira Avocado Body Bar and Lemon Avocado Body Butter

I think that I have finally found the perfect soap and lotion combination for my skin. Limoneira's Lemon Avocado Body Butter and Avocado Body Bar left my hopelessly dry skin feeling smooth and lively.
If you are someone that is looking for natural products, Limoneira should be at the top of your must try list. I am traditionally allergic to lemons. A glass of lemonade will break me out like you won't believe! But I found both the soap and the body butter to be incredibly soothing. No itching or breakouts here- the soap has a hearty earthy scent while the lotion goes on the skin cool and refreshingly. I. Am. In. Love.

For those of you that not only care about a product being natural but also about how it is produced, you should also look into Lumineira. They are producing products as sustainably as possible, employing smart water management and solar energy on their grounds. Want to learn more? Visit Limoneria.com for more info.
